Souvignier Gris, the “Pink Lady,” is a fungus-resistant white wine variety (PIWI) that was bred in 1983 at the State Institute of Viticulture in Freiburg. The variety is characterized by robust berry skins and good resistance to major fungal diseases. This makes it particularly well-suited for natural, resource-efficient viticulture.
At Hofmeister, the Souvignier Gris is fruity and fresh. The sensory description includes notes of honeydew melon, apricot jam, and quince juice. The 2025 vintage was rated 88 points by Falstaff and displays aromas of orange, passion fruit, pineapple, and apple, as well as subtle hints of honey, coconut, and floral notes.

Weinbau zum Hofmeister – Wine with a Vision: In 2023, Rima and Jürg Odermatt realized their dream of owning their own vineyard. On June 12, 2023, approximately 8,500 vines were planted on the hillside facing the Reuss River; and another 1,500 vines were added on May 13, 2024. The winery focuses on fungus-resistant PIWI grape varieties and operates organically and as sustainably as possible—with a focus on people, animals, and the environment. The vineyard is located in Meisterswil near Hünenberg at a scenic vantage point overlooking the Reuss Valley. The landscape shapes the character of the winery: open fields, the Reuss River, and the Pre-Alps provide the backdrop for a young, forward-thinking winemaking operation. Hofmeister embodies the combination of modern viticulture, sustainable practices, and deep regional roots. Its location above the Reuss Valley not only affords the winery a spectacular view but also shapes the story behind every bottle: wine from Central Switzerland, grown with care and passion.
